99 rejections Chicken Soup

this was per that article - http://lithub.com/why-you-should-aim-for-100-rejections-a-year/

She wrote in response to a friend who always seemed to get published:

I asked her what her secret was, and she said something that would change my professional life as a writer: “Collect rejections. Set rejection goals. I know someone who shoots for one hundred rejections in a year, because if you work that hard to get so many rejections, you’re sure to get a few acceptances, too.”...
" My vulnerable ego only wants to be loved and accepted, to have my words ring out from a loudspeaker in Times Square while a neon ticker scrolls the text across a skyscraper, but it’s a big old coward...
Perhaps aiming for rejection, a far more attainable goal, would take some of the sting out of this ego-bruising exercise—which so often feels like an exercise in futility."

to me there is that, but another aspect for me is, when i set out to a task (IE get published/paid for work) i want to SUCCEED. When there's a process that does not depend on me at all (IE i have to depend on someone else's largesse/belief in me/generosity/what have you) the control instantly leavs my hands and the success is thus not up to me. Therefore I dont' want to do it> I don't want to spend energy on something whose goal or outcome directly depends on another person. THis is one reason i sucked at sales and don't do well/enjoy anything involving others.

But if instead i set as goal 99 rejections, then that's all up to me! All I then am held accountable for is submitting the stuff, and bugger what they do or think about it.

So that's my new project, 99 rejections by the end of the year. It is super ambitious bc its already october so that would be more than 1 a day (88 days being left in the year)

14 weeks = 6.85 = 1  a day or 7 per week

so far submitted 3 things (so I'm at 96 out of 99) have not been officially 'rejected' but it is assumed unless heard otherwise

so i only have 96 our of 88, still a bit more than 1 a day

it can be for me writing, JH writing, or art opps, or different freelancey jobs that are applied to

EDIT: WE ARE down to 93 bc we did apply to some fellowship or other back in May & in July a recent thing or 2

so, list:

- NWU proposal
- AA art grant
- JH fellowship
- JH Jacobin
- yeterday JH lit mag http://litmag.com/submit/
- yesterday AA art colouring book sub

will keep a running tally

but will discuss process here

EDIT 10/5: 92 - after poetry to lit mag
EDIT 10/8 - 92 - posted new thing to lit mag BUT got accepted to an art thing, so that evens it out & still at 92
EDIT: 10/8 91 - after Binge thing

Future to Pursue

- Lit Mag

(http://litmag.com/submit/) the thing done yesterday, allows multiple subs per category
  1. online fiction
  2. fiction PRINT (15K words)*
  3. poetry PRINT
  4. nonfiction PRINT (15k words)*
*if doing JH, remove from Amazon 1st

this is 3 more opps. TEchnically i could do some but not feeling it unless sthg very specific

- Chicken Soup Series

 many opps from Chicken Soup

the series is beyond my ken bc i tend to be a bit more cynical and whatnot but it pays $200 per story and even i'm capable of it now & again. Stricly me, he will not have the stomach for it.

http://www.chickensoup.com/story-submissions/possible-book-topics

Here's a few more opps for that, I am allowed to sub multiple stories per subject, 1 story for 2 subjects if i feel they fit in, etc:

- 1200 or less
- original work
- no controversy (shocker there)
- poems OK if they tell a story (am not interested but still)
first person and have a beginning, middle and an end

Inspiration for Teachers October 30, 2016.
Being a teacher is hard, and we know that teachers sometimes need a morale boost, some reassurance that what they do matters, and some new, fun ideas for the classroom.

Being a teacher is not what you do… it’s who you are. You don’t stop being a teacher when the dismissal bell rings. You are always a teacher. Teachers influence and shape the future. Teachers inspire and motivate students each and every day. Teachers don’t teach for the great salaries; they teach because of the rewards they get when a student thrives, or when a student has a “WOW” moment because of a teacher’s guidance.

We are looking for true stories by and about teachers. Here are some ideas but we know you can think of many more:

• I am a teacher and this is why I teach
• The teacher who changed my life
• The student who changed my life
• My first year teaching
• Learning from the students
• Embarrassing moments
• Staying enthusiastic year after year
• Tough situations
• That WOW moment
• Turning negative into positive
• Funny moments
• Challenging yourself
• Stepping out of your comfort zone
• Great tips to share with other teachers
• Your best piece of advice for new teachers
• Your best piece of advice to re-energize a teacher
• Reflections on being a teacher

***Please note that this is a reposting of the Stories about Teachers and Teaching title. If you already submitted a story for that title please do not submit it again. We have it in our database and it will be considered for this title. The deadline date for story and poem submissions has been extended to October 30, 2016.***

ME AND HIM DID THIS

You meet someone at just the right time and you can’t believe the coincidence. We’re collecting stories for a second book on this topic, following our bestseller Chicken Soup for the Soul: Dreams and Premonitions. Share your stories about the amazing things that have happened in your own life.

The deadline date for story and poem submissions was May 31, 2016 but it has been extended to NOVEMBER 30, 2016.

Stories about Cats - January 31, 2017
We are working on and collecting stories and poems for another wonderful book about our cats. The focus of this book will be on rescued cats that were adopted from shelters or rescue organizations and who luckily found their forever homes. Whether adopted as kittens or adopted as older cats in the last few years of their lives, what amazing stories of survival our cats could tell us. We love these heartwarming and inspirational stories about our cats and the amazing and magical things they do. We rejoice in their simple absurdities, funny habits, and crazy antics. Our cats make us smile and laugh every day, but sometimes they really outdo themselves. Whether they came up with the idea themselves, or you put them in a situation that caused them to do something unusual, we want to hear about it! We know you'll have many great stories for us about your cats. Stories can be serious or humorous... or both. Tell us what your cat did. The deadline for story and poem submissions is January 31, 2017

Here's sthg from writers who have - http://www.beyondyourblog.com/5-bloggers-share-their-stories-of-being-published-in-chicken-soup-for-the-soul/
